Not all students choose to follow the traditional Leaving Certificate Programme. The Leaving Certificate Applied offers an exciting and rewarding alternative for students who are not adequately catered for by other Leaving Certificate Programmes or who choose not to opt for such programmes.
The fundamental goal of this programme is to prepare Leaving Certificate students for the transition from the world of school to that of adult and working life. Personal and social development of participants is very important during LCA. A broad range of teaching methodologies is used and the emphasis is always on participant centred learning.
Students who follow this programme do not rely on one final exam to achieve their Leaving Certificate. Students receive their marks in a combination of three ways:
- Attendance and class work.
- Seven Key Tasks.
- Final Exams.
Work Experience is also an integral part of the course. LCA provides access to further education and training.
